绿色头发+“鸡冠头”发型(如下图);

下巴处长有两根厚实的手指状的肉质结构(如下图);

在伦敦动物学会(ZSL)编写的新一期 Edge(Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered,具有独特进化意义的全球 濒危动物 )名单中,它被列入最脆弱的爬行动物名单中。

来自毛里求斯圆岛(Round Island)的蟒蛇--岛蚺(Casarea dussumieri),它是唯一已知的具有铰链状上颚的陆生脊椎动物;

来自马达加斯加的枯叶变色龙(Brookesia minima),只有一个人的拇指指甲盖大小;

The scale of the ongoing biodiversitycrisis requires both effective conservation prioritisation and urgent action.As extinction is non-random across the tree of life, it is important toprioritise threatened species which represent large amounts of evolutionaryhistory. The EDGE metric prioritises species based on their EvolutionaryDistinctiveness (ED), which measures the relative contribution of a species tothe total evolutionary history of their taxonomic group, and GlobalEndangerment (GE), or extinction risk. EDGE prioritisations rely on adequatephylogenetic and extinction risk data to generate meaningful priorities forconservation. However, comprehensive phylogenetic trees of large taxonomicgroups are extremely rare and, even when available, become quickly out-of-datedue to the rapid rate of species descriptions and taxonomic revisions. Thus, itis important that conservationists can use the available data to incorporateevolutionary history into conservation prioritisation. We compared publishedand new methods to estimate missing ED scores for species absent from aphylogenetic tree whilst simultaneously correcting the ED scores of their closetaxonomic relatives. We found that following artificial removal of species froma phylogenetic tree, the new method provided the closest estimates of their“true” ED score, differing from the true ED score by an average of less than1%, compared to the 31% and 38% difference of the previous methods. Theprevious methods also substantially under- and over-estimated scores as morespecies were artificially removed from a phylogenetic tree. We therefore usedthe new method to estimate ED scores for all tetrapods. From these scores weupdated EDGE prioritisation rankings for all tetrapod species with IUCN RedList assessments, including the first EDGE prioritisation for reptiles.Further, we identified criteria to identify robust priority species in aneffort to further inform conservation action whilst limiting uncertainty andanticipating future phylogenetic advances.
